Background

Saferparks is a non-profit public service organization founded in 2000 to help prevent amusement ride accidents through research, information sharing, and effective public safety policy.

From 2000-2008, Saferparks worked to improve the public's understanding of safety issues related to thrill rides, with particular focus on child safety, and advocated on behalf of consumers in setting standards and regulations that promote transparency and protect consumer interests.

  • In 2000, Saferparks launched this website to educate consumers about known safety issues related to use of amusement rides. The Saferparks Database was added in 2002 to provide easy on-line access to government ride safety information, including public data describing amusement ride injuries and regulatory requirements from a variety of jurisdictions.
  • Saferparks founder, Kathy Fackler, represented consumer interests on the ASTM F-24 industry standards committee for amusement rides and advised legislators, regulators, industry groups, and consumer organizations on this issue. She has testified before the U.S. Congress, the California state legislature, and the European Commission on consumer impacts of amusement ride safety public policy.

Current Status

Saferparks downsized in 2009 and is no longer engaged in advocacy. The website and database will remain online as a public service.  Final Editorial
