Injury Trends for Waterpark Attractions
- Injuries peak at age 11.
- 86% of waterpark injuries reported to state safety agencies involve water slides. The most common accidents are impact injuries caused by high velocity, slip-and-slide nature of water slides.
- Patron's body hit against slide or pool.
- Patrons collided with each other.
- Patron's inner tube flipped, causing the rider to hit the side of the slide.
- Relatively few injuries are reported for wavepools, but 10% of the reported injuries involve drowning or near drowning (primarily young children).

Note that a higher number of reported accidents for a particular type of attraction does not necessarily indicate a higher rate of patron injury. Ride or device types that are more broadly defined will accrue higher accident counts. More popular attractions and those operated in states with stricter public reporting laws will generate higher numbers of reported accidents.
